KAMPAR: We were once kids, with a growing process filled with wonders, dreams and friendships.

These are the  feelings treasured and upheld by the Arts and Craft Society of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman(UTAR), Kampar Campus.

This week, the society is holding an art exhibition titled “Fly Beyond The Walls”, which takes place at the Heritage Building in the university campus.

The name, “Fly Beyond The Walls” is chosen as it is a message the organizing committee wanted to convey.

“Growing up, people tend to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life that they lost the vibrant innocence as children.

These are the ‘Walls’ we meant, which blocks us from our truest and purest hearts,

“As such, we wish to bring all UTAR students to fly beyond these walls, and remind the visitors of the exhibition that they were once kind-hearted children,” said the Chairperson of the society, Choy See Kee.

The Chairperson of the Organizing Committee of the event, Lim Wan Thing expressed gratitude for the effort the committee members had put in.

“We spent a long time preparing for the event. At first, it was set to be held in the Heritage Hall but was changed to room A009,

“I would like to thank all committee members for their hard work and commitment, that made this exhibition possible,” said Lim.

Lim also introduced some of the programmes during this exhibition week.

“For every day of the exhibition, there will be a special contest. For example, today, participants get to dress up in secondary school uniforms. We will have other contests as well, such as childhood memories selfie competitions, board games and others,

“This week, visitors should also look out for the various talks that will be hosted, such as a sharing by Eddie See , a Malaysian Comic Artist, and Toh Teong Chuan, who will share about his insights on Chinese Folk songs,” she said.

In the exhibition room, many of the displays will take you to a trip down the memory lane.

There is a corner filled with photos of children and life in kindergarten, which reminds of the cutest, sweetest stage of life.

Many of the old toys, games, storybooks and comics were also on display, where all of these are familiar to Malaysian kids born in the 90s.

Apart from that, there is also a showcase of some of the unique handiwork by the society members.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition was graced by UTAR Vice President of Student Development and Alumni Relations, Prof. Dr Choong Chee Keong.

Also present were the advisor of UTAR Arts and Craft Society, Ms. Chan Jer Jing, and two staff  from the university’s Department of Student Affairs.

“Fly Beyond The Walls” will be held from February 20 to February 24, open daily from 10am to 4pm.
