KAMPAR: A student’s mountain bike was stolen on Sunday’s evening where she parked it outside of a Photostatting shop near the café ‘Simple Coffee’.

Loh Wei Yi’s mountain bike was parked together with her friends’ and it did not take long for those who are greedy enough to set the eye on the expensive bike, which cost about RM 800.

According to Loh’s friend Yiwen, they parked their bicycles there without locked as they usually done.

“Loh has then heard the sound like someone was moving the bicycles and went to check out only to find her bike was stolen,” said Yiwen.

“We immediately went around Kampar new town area to try our luck, hoping to find it back,” Yiwen continued.

“We had already left our contact number to every bicycle shop in the new town area, so if the thief tries to sell the bike to wherever shops the shop owners will contact us,” she said.

Besides the feeling of out of luck, Loh and her friends also learned their lesson, leaving their bicycles unlocked was as wrong as the thief who stole the bicycle.

“If your bicycle lock has broken, buy a new one.

Leave your bicycle unlocked is like a ‘welcome sign’ for the thieves to steal it away,” Loh said.

“I will continue searching my bike and I believe justice will be done for those who committed stealing behavior,” she remarked.

Loh also urged for those who has the information regarding her stolen bike, to contact her immediately at 01133348554.

According to psychology student Lim Chean Wei, who is now in his third year last semester of his study, he viewed that the public security in Kampar new town area was getting worse since he first came to study in 2013.

He recalled the incident of his friend’s bicycle got stolen outside of the Mamak stall ‘Ghany Corner’.

“It was ridiculous as my friend he was sitting outside of the stall as well, but the thief still managed to escape the public eyes and stole his bicycle,” Lim said.

Gan Hui Yee, a recent graduate of chemistry student also remembered the morning where her bicycle got stolen in front of the shop ‘Bobalife’.

“I was shocked as it was in the morning like 9 AM but the thief still managed to steal the bicycle.

“I had locked my bicycle but I can’t found my lock at the place where I parked the bicycle as I expected the thief would break the lock, “she continued.

Gan still puzzled on how the thief managed to get away with her locked bicycle.

Bicycles are the most common transportation for UTAR students to go to campus and get around in Kampar new town area.

Stolen bicycles are hard to track down as they are not registered, hence most of the owners will eventually give up searching.

Theft and robbery cases that targeted on UTAR students, especially during the examination period, also caught the attention of UTAR management.

The Department of Student Affairs has issued news to advise the students on their personal safety, as prevention is better than cure.
