Mondays are usually dull, boring, sleepy and depressing.

​

But that is not the case today when dozens of students showed up at the Dota 2 tournament in Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman(UTAR) Kampar this morning.

​

Hosted by the campus’ Institute of Engineering Malaysia(IEM) student section, it provides a platform for students to showcase their skills while enjoy playing the game.

​

Student Tey Feng Nian,20, who was also a participant, says the game requires more team synergy than individual skills.

​

“To win a team battle, coordination and proper communication between teammates  becomes very important in order to achieve victory,” he said.

​

Tey, who is an avid gamer, regularly plays Dota 2, and was excited when he first heard of this competition.

​

“When I came to know about this competition,  I was  elated, and was like, ‘Wow! I am not relatively good in studies or sports, but this is a skill I can show everybody!’. And soon enough, I formed a team with my friends and registered as participants,” he said.

​

Goh How Keat, an employee of the main sponsors of the competition, Maximum Technology, is looking forward to the participants’ performance.

​

“Gaming is a common hobby these days. Students play games ranging from adventure games, Massively multiplayer online role-playing game(MMORPG), adventure games, strategy games to puzzle games. The participant’s showcase today is worth anticipating,” he said.

There are two categories for the competition which are the Dota 2 Tournament(Team battle) and the 1vs1 Mid-lane Battle.

Winners will enjoy decent rewards too, such as RM400 cash for first prize, and in game items for consolation prize.

​

The competition will be held for consecutively two days, which are March 27 and 28, from 9am to 5.30pm.
